They Went to the Woods & Made Plans

    sculpture series 2022-2023
    stoneware, underglaze, terra sigilatta

This exploration of larger work is inspired by my love of material and the natural world. They are a love letter.

    To those who wander
    To those who wonder
    To those that are curious
    To those that hide
    To those that keep secrets
To those that search for home
    To those that are home
    To those that struggle
    To those that seek joy
To those that fight the dark
    And those who embrace it

    artist statement:

After many years of focus on functional pottery, Jeanette has started turning her attention to heavily illustrated artworks. Both functional and decorative. She has added handbuilding and slip-casting to her studio practice. A love of materials and the natural world drives this new direction. Frequent experimentation and exploration keep her excited to go into the studio.

Jeanette grew up in South Carolina, Wisconsin and upstate New York. She spent a dozen years in Atlanta before settling in Portland, Oregon in 2013. Currently, she continues her studio practice full-time. Sometimes she just hangs about or walks the neighborhood. Mostly she takes her meds, tries to lead with kindness and does an ok job of passing the time.
