PRINTING CLASS: Beginner Gelli Printing - Mono Printing

A monoprint is a print that is one of a kind. In this class we will experiment with Gelli printing. Sounds weird. Yeah. It is. Using a print block made of a gelatinous material, we'll ink them up and make some gorgeous prints using color and texture and stencils. You will leave with a stack of gorgeous papers that you can use as backgrounds for other art pieces, cut them out into mobiles or garlands, bind them into a sketchbook - or anything else you can dream up.

All supplies will be provided and if you would like to bring some items to make textures, feel free. Flowers and leaves make great prints! Wear something appropriate to paint in. We'll have aprons for you to use, but we don't want you to ruin your favorite outfit.

You have the option of purchasing a Gelli plate with your ticket at a 20% discount. You don't need to purchase a plate. You can use the ones available in class but if you already know you'll want to take one home - reserve one and pick it up when you come for class.

    We will cover:
    • Making backgrounds
    • Using stencils
    • Printing botanicals
    • Doing impressions in the plate to print objects
    • Making stamps out of cardboard and hot glue
    • Image transfers

On the one hand I enjoyed the experience yet on the others hand having been completely new to gel printing I would have loved teaching on techniques and how to achieve certain effects through seeing examples and then through hands on where personal creativity comes in. Helpful tips were thrown out at random which are hard to digest when you’re in the middle of something already.

    Fantastic to create with friends!

This was a delightful afternoon and I might even take the class again! I would suggest a little more detailed intro to Gelli printing for newbies who sometimes want more info to feel confident getting started.

Great experience learning about gelli printing to create one of a kind, layered prints. We had all the tools, guided instruction and a great environment.
