Monster is a unique shop dedicated to supporting independent artists. Located in Ballard at 1716 NW Market Street. We feature a different artist on the second Saturday of each month during the Ballard Art Walk.
Monster is more than just a retail shop. We also have a dedicated classroom space where we host art and craft classes. Join us for our monthly craft social and meet other creative folks. We also rent out our 16 button makers for day rentals - or just use one in the shop to knock out your project.
Opened in September of 2008, Monster has proudly shared the unique works of hundreds of Pacific Northwest artists, makers and crafters with Seattle, Washington.

Rosalie & Douglas Gale are the inventors of Shower Art - waterproof art you can hang in your shower with a suction cup. They have been making dumb stuff for showers since 2008 and have become HANDS DOWN the very best Shower Art makers in the whole Pacific NW. Perhaps in the WHOLE WORLD!
This dynamic duo owns two retail stores in Seattle: Ugly Baby in the historic Pike Place Market and Monster in the Ballard neighborhood. Both stores sell the work of independent artists – Ugly Baby has a special focus on D.I.Y. craft kits & enamel pins (aside from the full Ugly Baby line) and Monster features the work of over 100 different independent artists - many from the Pacific Northwest.
Rosalie is obsessed with winning board games, reverse appliqué, free-motion embroidery and souffle pens by Sakura. She focuses on managing the retail shops, payroll, accounting, ordering product, sourcing new artists and creating the wholesale offerings. She has attended or taught at every single Craftcation Conference and plans to attend or teach at every single one until they stop having them or she dies. If Amy Tan (https://www.amytangerine.com/) misses one - Rosalie wins at her self-made, low-stakes competition.
Douglas makes a boink-ton of memes and watches a lot of Star Trek when he isn't fulfilling his duties which include (but are not limited to) transportation, employee schedules, HR, manufacturing, website stuff and shipping. We get our money's worth out of him. He's also the baby in the logo for Ugly Baby. That's a picture of him on the day he was born. As his family says, "It was a rough day for your mother."
