Turn your precious and interesting ephemera into a mosaic momento mirror!
In this TWO-DAY class you will learn how to create a 9X11” mirror out of jewelry, beads, china, metal and more. This class gives you the opportunity to repurpose those meaningful items into a mirror that will delight you everytime you look into it.
We provide the tools and instruction for this direct mosaic application class along with lots and lots of pretty tessera (mosaic bits). You will learn how to nip and cut glass and tile and learn some mosaic tips and tricks like keystoning curves and finding your mosaics andamento (flow).
Whether you bring items or not, you will leave with a gorgeous mirror while having an engaged and inspired time. Our most personal and fun class! Suitable for beginners and mosaic enthusiasts.
Please note that this class takes place over the course of a weekend.
Saturday, September 28th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. - create your design and adhere your tesserae.
Sunday, September 29th from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. - grout and finish your mirror.
This class will take place at Monster. Our address is 1716 NW Market Street, Seattle, WA 98107. It's at the intersection of 17th and NW Market Street - kitty corner from Mighty-O Donuts.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before class begins.
If you cannot attend class for any reason, we will offer an exchange to another class currently on our schedule up to 48 hours before the class. After that time, no refunds or exchanges are issued out of respect for our teachers who purchase and prepare supplies based on the number of attendees.
Our current Covid protocol is that anyone attending an event can email us at Info@monstermonster.shop to let us know they prefer that people wear masks up to 72 hours before the event begins. Your request is anonymous to all the other participants.
Attendees will receive an email before the class to let them know If we will be requiring masks.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS
Your instructors are experienced teachers of the mosaic craft. Majken Ryherd has been making mosaics for over 15 years, including community art and private commissions. She is currently managing the Hillman City Mini Planter project, bringing mosaics to 19 cement planters scattered around the intersection of Orcas and Rainier. Her co-instructor, professional artist Bridget Culligan, paints and works in stained and fused glass as well as ceramic tile. She recently finished 428 custom tiles for a project on Whidbey Island and displays her glass windows at Tangletown’s Zoka.
